The Province of Akhal occupies the area of southern Turkmenistan with the center at Anev city, some 10 km east of Ashgabat. The main industries include corn and cotton growing, fruit and vegetable growing. And now the province is rapidly turning into an industrial area. For the past decade they have built a lot of enterprises including hi-tech paper and cotton mills, modern textile complexes and food processing enterprises.
The province is also the breeding ground of the famous pedigree Ahkal-Teke horses. The province supports the population of 2 million and is mostly inhabited by the Tekke people, the largest Turkmen tribe.
